FAQs

Do you guys recommend Trip Insurance? If so, who do you recommend?

Yes, yes and yes! We highly recommend trip insurance. We’ve had good luck in the past using a website called https://www.insuremytrip.com . It is a comparison site that gives you options from several different companies. There are several options when choosing trip inusrance. We recommend the “cancel for any reason” policy if it is within your budget. This type of policy usually requires purchasing within 30 days of booking your trip initially, however.

I see a lot of your workshops are in winter and/or cold-weather environments. What do you recommend for clothing for that type of weather?

Wool is king in cold weather. We recommend dressing in layers, starting with a wool base layer. It’s easier to remove layers in the field than add layers. We also recommend wool gloves, hats and scarfs. Warm boots by Muck, Sorel, or another reputable outdoor brand should work great! We recommend wool gloves by company based in Iceland called Icewear. They are the warmest gloves we have found.

How do you prepare your camera gear for cold weather?

We don’t do anything special for this really. The most vulnerable item is your camera battery. Make sure you have plenty of spare batteries and they are fully charged each day! The cold zaps them pretty quickly! You usually only have issues with condensation going from very cold temperatures to very warm. Luckily, simply putting your camera in your bag after the shoot, then leaving it in the car on the ride back to our lodging is enough to acclimate the camera slowly enough to avoid this. In this event that we need to take measures, we simply place the camera in a plastic, lock-type bag to allow it to aclimate.

Do I get a receipt when I sign up for a workshop?

Yes, you will receive a confirmation email upon registering. That will serve as your receipt.

How will you communicate with me once I am registered for a workshop?

All communication will be done via email. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU ENSURE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS CORRECT WHEN REGISTERING! We will send out updates and notices via email. We also have a few meetings via Zoom prior to the workshop. Those meeting invitations will be sent to the email address you originally registered for the workshop with.

I’m not receiving emails with updates. How can I receive the emails?

First, make sure you used the correct email address when regiestring. That is very imoprtant. Second, make sure you add nifphotoworkshops@gmail.com to your safe senders list so the messages do not end up in your SPAM folder.
